Kwizoke Interactive, or KIT, is a complete pub entertainment system, incorporating karaoke (5500+ tracks with the facility to change key and tempo arbitrarily and incorporating voice pitch correction), music, and games (1-30 players). It also features many educational games and programs for use in schools.
KIT builds on the success of an earlier product called Kwizoke Plus, incorporating the same tried and tested intuitive on-screen menu system operated by remote control but with all-new software and a new CPU.
My role in the development of KIT was first to assess the status of the Kwizoke Plus system and look at the feasibility of moving to a new hardware platform. This progressed to the design and programming of a new system, which had to be able to run from boot time onwards with no other software or library support.
After creating a basic architectural layout, some hardware protocol designs, a simple-to-use development/build tree, and a bootable base system, it was possible to bring another developer into the project to work on raising KIT up to the same level of functionality as the earlier Kwizoke Plus system.
Once the karaoke and games from the earlier system had been implemented and improved upon, I was then able to reduce my role as co-developer and remain in the background as the project manager. Now that the KIT system has many more features and capabilities, I continue to work on the project as manager and as consultant developer for overall system design, security protocol, cryptography, and low-level or "arcane" programming issues.
