I was responsible for the development of this project from consultation and design through to programming and deployment on the hosting company's web servers.

This project allows local medical practices to put themselves online, not just giving contact information, but also leaflets and online services. Patients who enrol for the online services can request repeat prescriptions, ask questions, and book appointments over the Internet.

Since doctors and practice staff needed to be able to edit the content of their web pages as well as changing appointment times and checking patient signups and so on, this project was built inside a single Site Editor (content management system) portal using a plug-in architecture.

As it was anticipated that roll-out to practices would be a very gradual process, a simple database was also added to the project to allow contact information for practices that had not yet joined to be listed. The result of this is a clickable map of Bolton which, for any practice shown, either takes the user to the practice's web site or, if they are not yet online, gives alternative contact details.

To view the Bolton Practices web page, see http://www.ehealthservice.co.uk/bolton/ - for an example of a practice that has joined the scheme, try one of the Little Lever practices (lower right of the map). Please note that the site the link points to is neither owned nor operated by myself.
